Easier Method of Updating Self-Hosted WordPress!

The first thing I did after getting my monitor fixed was to upgrade from WordPress 2.3.3 to WordPress 2.5.1. Of course, the “old-fashioned” way is to follow the 4 steps that WordPress have given. I was feeling too lazy perform those operations manually and that’s when I came across the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin. It makes our work simpler because it takes us through a systematic approach in updating to the latest version of WordPress software. I got 2.5.1 and it looks really good with a neat User Interface. There are quite a few new features too like media options to include videos to be embedded in your posts.

Here is what the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin does:

1. Backs up the files and makes available a link to download it.
2. Backs up the database and makes available a link to download it.
3. Downloads the latest files from http://wordpress.org/latest.zip and unzips it.
4. Puts the blog in maintenance mode.
5. De-activates all active plugins and remembers it.
6. Upgrades WordPress files.
7. Gives you a link that will open in a new window to upgrade installation.
8. Re-activates the plugins.

Simple na? I would definitely recommend this plugin to everyone at ampli5 and others who use self-hosted WordPress blogs. Go ahead and try this out, right away! I’d love to hear about your Wordpress upgrade experience!
